The material is suitable for white and yellow thermoplastic road markings, including road line marking, center lines, edge lines, pedestrian crossings, profile markings and other reflective road markings.

What Is SS 589 Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint?
SS 589 thermoplastic road marking paint refers to hot-applied thermoplastic road marking material supplied for projects requiring Singapore Standard SS 589. The standard covers material requirements, site performance requirements and application requirements for hot-applied thermoplastic road marking materials.
Unlike ordinary road paint, SS 589-type thermoplastic paint is solvent-free and supplied in block, granular or powder form. After melting, it is applied to the road surface by screed or spray application. After cooling, it forms an adherent road marking layer for center lines, edge lines, pedestrian crossings and profile markings.

Solid glass beads are used to improve nighttime visibility. Premix glass beads support long-term retroreflectivity, while drop-on glass beads provide initial reflectivity after application.
Skid Resistance and Durability:
SS 589 includes requirements related to skid resistance, wear performance and field durability, making it suitable for road marking projects where safety and long service life are important.
Project-Based Formula Adjustment:
Formula can be adjusted for softening point, luminance factor, Qd, RL, skid resistance, glass bead system, thickness, climate and application method.

Highways & Expressways
Long-life center/edge lines, lane arrows, and rumble/profiled markings under heavy traffic. Typical film thickness 2.0–3.0 mm; drop-on glass beads 250–400 g/m² (RI ≥1.5), with high-brightness beads for elevated RL at night and in wet conditions.
Urban & Municipal Roads
Crosswalks, stop lines, turn arrows, bus/bike lanes, and symbols where rapid reopening is critical. Fast no-pick-up time (~2–4 min) minimizes congestion; use primer on concrete and consider anti-skid aggregates where higher BPN is required.
Airports & Ports (Roadways & Aprons where permitted)
High-visibility guidance on landside roads, aprons, and cargo areas exposed to UV, oils, fuel drips, salt spray, and intensive service traffic. Specify bead systems for sustained retroreflectivity and confirm local airfield/port specifications before use.
Parking Lots & School Zones
Stall lines, ADA/access markings, speed humps, zebra crossings, and directional symbols. Cost-effective thickness 1.5–2.0 mm with drop-on beads for nighttime visibility; primer recommended on concrete substrates.
