What Is JT/T 280-2004 Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint?

JT/T 280-2004 is a Chinese transportation industry standard for pavement marking paint. It defines the classification, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage of road marking paint.

For thermoplastic road marking paint, JT/T 280-2004 includes three main types:

Ordinary thermoplastic road marking paint
Reflective thermoplastic road marking paint
Profiled thermoplastic road marking paint

The standard is often used for export projects where customers need Chinese standard thermoplastic road marking paint with stable performance and practical cost control.

JT/T 280-2004 and JT/T 280-2022 are both Chinese standards for road marking paint, but they are not the same.

JT/T 280-2022 replaced JT/T 280-2004 and introduced stricter requirements for thermoplastic road marking paint, including ≥30% premixed glass beads for reflective and profiled types, higher softening point range, thermal deformation resistance, total organic content, and additional raw material and packaging requirements.

For thermoplastic reflective type and profiled type, the premixed glass bead content is 18–25%. Ordinary type does not contain premixed glass beads.
