In recent years, many colored pavements have appeared on roads in China. These pavements not only decorate the road surface but also serve to warn drivers, thus ensuring the safety of vehicles and pedestrians. Currently, there are four main types of colored pavement materials both domestically and internationally: 1) colored asphalt mixtures; 2) emulsified colored asphalt slurry sealers; 3) colored cement grout asphalt mixtures; and 4) colored anti-skid coatings. Compared to the first three types, colored anti-skid coatings offer superior anti-skid performance.
Because colored anti-skid coatings are easy to apply, come in a wide variety of colors, have relatively stable colorfastness, and are relatively inexpensive, they are widely used in accident-prone areas such as bus lanes, highways, toll booths, road slopes, intersections, roundabouts, and bus stops. They provide excellent safety warnings and anti-skid protection, and their use in colored pavement installations both domestically and internationally is expected to increase significantly.
Colored anti-skid pavement is widely used in developed countries such as Europe. Extensive comparative data demonstrates that its application not only helps alleviate traffic congestion but is also an effective means of preventing and controlling road traffic accidents. Colored anti-skid pavement uses different road colors to guide drivers to drive on designated areas, thus avoiding the mixing of different types of vehicles. It alerts drivers to dangerous road sections ahead and provides excellent anti-skid performance through a high-friction surface layer. Drivers can reduce their speed in advance when entering these sections, and in emergencies, can shorten braking distance by one-third, avoiding serious traffic accidents.
